Joseph Coppin is a Senior Lecturer in Philosophy at the University of the West of England, Bristol. His research centres on the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche, particularly the relationship between facts and values. His doctoral research at the Open University, supervised by Dr Manuel Dries, examines Nietzsche’s attempt to overcome the fact–value distinction and its implications for our understanding of knowledge and evaluation.
His broader research and teaching interests include metaphysics, existentialism, the ethics of technology and posthumanism. His work also engages with epistemology and value theory, with a particular interest in how values can be justified and how evaluative commitments shape our understanding of the world. These concerns inform his exploration of the relationship between knowing, interpreting and evaluating, both within Nietzsche’s philosophy and beyond it.
