Daniel Conway received his BA in Philosophy and Economics from Tulane University and his PhD in Philosophy from the University of California, San Diego. He has held faculty appointments at Stanford University, Harvard University, The Pennsylvania State University, and Texas A&M University, where he is Professor of Philosophy and Humanities and Affiliate Professor of Film Studies, Religious Studies, and Law.
Conway has lectured and published widely on topics in post-Kantian European philosophy, political philosophy, philosophy of religion, law and humanities, philosophy of film and literature, and genocide studies. He is the author of Nietzsche’s Dangerous Game (Cambridge UP, 1997), Nietzsche and the Political (Routledge, 1997), and Reader’s Guide to Nietzsche’s On the Genealogy of Morals (Continuum, 2008). His current Nietzsche-related project, a Critical Guide to Beyond Good and Evil, is scheduled to appear in 2021 (Edinburgh UP). He is the editor of the four-volume series Nietzsche: Critical Assessments of Leading Philosophers (Routledge, 1998) and co-editor of Nietzsche und die antike Philosophie (Wissenschaftlicher Verlag, 1992), Nietzsche, Philosophy, and the Arts (Cambridge UP, 1998), and The History of Continental Philosophy, Volume II (Acumen, 2010).
With Keith Ansell-Pearson, Conway edits the Critical Guides to Nietzsche series (Edinburgh UP). A member of the Executive Committee of the Friedrich Nietzsche Society, he also serves as the Society’s liaison to the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophie. A former Executive Editor of the Journal of Nietzsche Studies, he now serves on its Editorial Board. He also serves on the Editorial Advisory Boards of Nietzsche-Studien, Nietzsche Online, Studies in the History of Western Philosophy (Brill), and Monographien und Texte zur Nietzsche-Forschung (Walter de Gruyter). In 2014 he was named an Honorary Life Member of the Friedrich Nietzsche Society.
